Why we leave the garden door open

Free-flow play, all year round, and why a little mud is good for learning.

An open door onto the sunny garden with small wellies lined up outside

For most of the day our garden door is open and children choose where they want to be. We call it free flow.

Children learn differently outside. They take bigger risks, use bigger movements and talk more. Some children who are quiet inside become the leaders of the mud kitchen.

We have waterproofs for everyone, so the weather is rarely a reason to stay in. Please send wellies.
