Our autumn soup, and how the children make it

Squash from the garden, a lot of chopping practice and a recipe you can make at home.

Every September the squash in our raised beds is ready at the same time, so we make soup. The children wash, scoop and (with child-safe knives and a lot of supervision) chop.

You will need one squash, an onion, a carrot, a pint of vegetable stock and a little butter. Soften the onion and carrot, add the squash and stock, simmer for twenty minutes and blend.

Martin serves it at tea time with warm bread. It is, the children assure us, the best soup in the world.
