What we found in the woods this week

A fox’s den, a hundred acorns and a very serious discussion about whether trees sleep.

Small hands holding acorns and autumn leaves in the woods

Oaks spent Tuesday and Thursday mornings in Hollow Wood, as they do every week. This week the children found what Tom is fairly sure is a fox’s den, and spent most of Thursday quietly watching it from a respectful distance.

Back at nursery they drew maps of where they had been, counted acorns into egg boxes (we got to 104 before lunch) and started a long conversation about whether trees sleep in winter.

Next week we are taking magnifying glasses and a flask of hot chocolate. If your child comes home asking about hibernation, that is why.
