Our five hens — Pepper, Marigold, Dot, Hazel and Big Jean — live at the bottom of the garden and are looked after by the Oaks and Saplings.
The egg rota
Each morning two children check the nesting boxes, count the eggs and carry them carefully to the kitchen. Some days it’s six, some days none, and that is a lesson too.
